Hello all,
I know that times are tough financially, but in the spirit of giving, I hope that you will prayerfully consider participating in this worthwhile event. In light of my sermon this past Sunday, let's think about the true meaning of Christmas: obedience. Jesus told us that whenever we do anything for the least of these, we do it for him. And let's face it, our country has made the poor "the least of these." We live in such a materialistic society that if you don't have money, you are looked down upon. Now of course, there are people who abuse welfare, and many people are poor because they are lazy and unmotivated, but the reality is, there will be many children this year who will wake up Christmas morning without any presents. No matter how financially tough it is right now, that thought should break our hearts.
Maybe what we can do is not give presents to a friend or two, and partner with that friend to take part in this toy drive. That's what me and Sarah are doing this year. Instead of buying each other Christmas gifts, we are using that money to sponsor two children. If people in Basilea partnered up and did the same thing, we could provide gifts for several needy kids this year.
Let's remember our theme for 2008: Each one reach one! This is one small way that we can live out this theme as a ministry. There will be an event where many families will gather for a luncheon and receive these gifts. I have been asked to preach a short message about Christmas. Wouldn't it be great if many people came to know Jesus through this event? So please consider participating.
=)
